HOSTEL is a 2007 American black comedy crime film directed by Oren Moverman from a screenplay co-written with his brother, Gal. She claims that they are her family and that she will only refund the money when they leave. The next day, the young travelers are horrified to discover that they have been trapped inside the hostel. They are not allowed out of the second-floor rooms without Rosarita, who acts as their captor. Cell phones do not work in the hostel, nor can they use credit cards to call for help (and if they try, Rosarita will simply refuse to send help). There is a bathroom on the first floor that is locked and guarded by a dog. The only other exit from the hostel is through a door on the roof where large windows provide views into neighboring houses and allow Rosarita and her children (including her own son) to watch them while they shower and eat meals. Soon, the travelers become desperate and horrified as to what will become of them. Although they have no money to bail themselves out, they believe that they can use the facilities on the first floor. They agree to Rosarita's demand that she use a room as a bathroom for their escape from the hostel, but only because it is after curfew and people will not be around to see anything. The travelers attempt to break down Rosarita's door, but find that she has blocked entry with a chest of drawers. The travelers decide to make a plan instead and switch rooms with a couple staying upstairs. The pair, who are also young adults, are even dumber than the travelers and have already finished paying their stay. They become unwilling accomplices in the travelers' escape attempt. After hours of digging through drawers, the travelers reach an old safe which they open to find cash. They use it to pay Rosarita for their freedom.
